If you missed my post on Sound Channels https://lnkd.in/edfNXqi
Monophonic sound as the name suggests refers to a single channel of sound. When a person delivers a speech, he cannot create two different sources of sound and his voice will always originate from a single direction. Human voice is always mono sound.
Stereo sound consists of two channels of sound viz. Left and Right channel. The first known stereo sound reproduction took place as early as 1881 in Paris. The live performance of the Paris opera was relayed to rooms through telephone with receivers for both ears. Modern stereo technology was invented in the 1930s and made its way into commercial cinemas in 1950s.
During a music concert, the drummer could be on our left, the guitarist on the right and the vocalist at the centre. If we experience this live, we would be able to localise the instruments with vocals centred. The vocals are reproduced from both the speakers to simulate the centre sound field. Music reproduction in most of the cases is in stereo format as the performers are always in front of us and spread across the stage.
