Project Overview

AL Jamea, operated by The Saifee Foundation, is a multi-building institutional campus in Marol, Mumbai. It has a main auditorium, dining facilities (Mawaid), a religious teaching and assembly space (Mahad), and a large Assembly Hall for gatherings and ceremonies. Each space had its own demands. The Auditorium needed broadcast-grade production for large events. The Mawaid needed dependable communication across two floors of daily use. The Mahad needed uniform audio and video coverage for congregational gatherings. The Assembly Hall needed full camera routing, recording, and streaming for high-attendance institutional events.

The challenge was to deliver all of this as one connected campus, not as a set of separate installations, while giving the client's team structured infrastructure and documentation they could maintain with confidence.

Design Intent

The objective was to create a unified AV ecosystem across the campus. It would share one engineering standard, a consistent control philosophy, and a common documentation framework, and each space would still be tailored to its function.

Key priorities included:

  • High-performance, intelligible sound reinforcement across every space
  • Multi-camera live production, recording, and broadcast capability
  • Seamless switching and routing of video sources across displays, recorders, and streaming endpoints
  • Distributed audio and video feeds to VIP rooms, offices, dressing rooms, and backstage areas
  • A standardized, scalable framework across the Ground and First Floors of the Mawaid and Mahad
  • Simple control for both technical operators and non-technical daily users
  • Structured rack, network, and cabling architecture with defined IP allocation and port mapping

Complete documentation, training, and formal handover with a unified escalation framework

Solution Approach

Play delivered the project as a single, phased campus integration. Every space followed the same engineering and network standards, and each solution was shaped around how that space is used:

  • Auditorium: Built as a full-scale production venue. A centralized amp room houses the audio DSP, wireless microphones, and power amplifiers. Line array speakers, subwoofers, stage monitors, and distributed speakers give balanced coverage across the hall, stage, VIP sections, and backstage.
  • Auditorium production: Multiple PTZ cameras, professional video switching, scaling, and encoding feed an LED display and distributed displays across VIP rooms, royal boxes, backstage, and control areas. A dedicated control room brings together camera controllers, the audio mixing console, recording systems, and monitoring displays.
  • Mawaid: A floor-wise deployment across the ground and first floors, with well-positioned displays, distributed audio for speech clarity, centralized rack integration, structured cabling, and a simplified control interface for daily operation.
  • Mahad: Network-based audio and video infrastructure for religious assemblies, speeches, and training sessions. Ceiling, wall, surface, and line array speakers cover both floors, alongside large-format displays and PTZ cameras. Floor boxes throughout both levels carry Cat6 and multi-core audio for podiums, floor microphones, and auxiliary inputs.
  • Assembly Hall: Distributed sound reinforcement, operable in Software Mode or Mixer Mode, with high-brightness displays, strategically placed microphone points for speeches and cultural programs, and full acoustic calibration within the hall’s architectural constraints.
  • Ewan Video Rack: Engineered as the Assembly Hall’s broadcast and distribution core. Video encoders and decoders carry signals over IP, managed by a professional switcher and routing system. Multi-format converters bridge HDMI, SDI, fiber, and network video. The rack also holds multi-channel recording, camera control units for PTZ management, and managed network switches for AV-over-IP.
  • Campus-wide infrastructure: Managed network switches, organized patch panels, defined IP allocation, and complete port documentation for every encoder, decoder, switch, and camera, with Cat7 and audio snake cabling at the Auditorium stage.

The Assembly Hall and the Ewan Video Rack were designed as one production ecosystem, giving the hall centralized control over every camera and projection endpoint. Across the campus, the shared standards mean every space behaves predictably, is straightforward to troubleshoot, and can be expanded without rework.

Outcome

AL Jamea now runs on a single, production-ready, fully documented AV ecosystem. The Auditorium delivers even sound across audience and stage zones, the Mahad has uniform coverage across its congregational floors, and the Mawaid has consistent clarity for daily use. With the Ewan Video Rack at its core, the campus supports multi-camera production, recording, and live streaming for large events, and video sources route smoothly to displays and recorders throughout. Structured racks, IP mapping, and port documentation make maintenance simple for the client's technical team. Formal handover, training, and a unified escalation structure give the institution a reliable, future-ready platform for live events, daily operations, congregational gatherings, and broadcast-grade productions.
